Led by Pastor Hesham Shehab, Messiah For Muslims (Recognized Service Organization of the LCMS) launched “Living Water,” an important new initiative serving Arabic-speaking immigrant women in Northern Illinois. The project is designed to provide a private, culturally appropriate, women-only environment where women can learn swimming skills, build friendships, and encounter the hope of the Gospel in a safe and welcoming setting.
On May 9, 2026, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Allison, a certified swimming coach, presented the vision for the project. She shared how swimming lessons can meet a real practical need while also opening doors for trust, conversation, and community. With the help of Zeina (a convert from the Arabian Gulf), who brings language skills, cultural understanding, and a heart for outreach, this ministry will create a bridge of care and friendship for Muslim women who may otherwise feel isolated.
A major step forward has already been made: Allison was able to secure a pool where the program can begin. This answered prayer gives the ministry a practical place to start serving women through both physical safety and spiritual encouragement.
“Living Water” is more than a swimming program. It is a Christ-centered outreach that offers dignity, relationship, and hope. Through this ministry, women will be welcomed into a caring community where the love of Jesus can be shared naturally and respectfully. The program started officially on June 15th.
